Default Before-trip "check list"

Bookking your travel through a "brick and mortar" (NOT on-line) travel agency, which has been in business for several years, is one way of addressing the matter of needed travel documents when you don't have the time to do the research yourself. However, as other posters on this board have noted, an airline ticket purchased through a travel agent can lead to problems if you have a less than diligent agent and there are flight cancellations, schedule changes or other issues.

Legally, you are solely responsible for having the proper travel documents BEFORE you set-out for the airport. Mistakes by an airline or a travel agent do NOT relieve you of said legal responsibility.

If it is of any consolation, Singapore Air was probably fined, by Thai authorities, for allowing you to board the flight without proper entry documentation.

I concur with the previous posters........it ultimately falls on the traveler to make sure he/she has the appropriate entry/exit documents to travel. And yes, the airline will receive a token fine but that is normally negotiated down to a pittance.

Agent 101 though says an agent of an airline always looks for the appropriate stamps in the passport. Void of any visas, I asked if the traveler was a resident of the country he/she was traveling to if the passport was not from that country and a visa was required. If so, I asked to see the resident card. The agent failed the passenger in this case.

Anne, out of curiousity, what nationality are you? You say you are traveling from SIN to Thailand. According to published information, Singapore nationals receive a 30 day visa upon entry. You should not have been denied if your passport is from Singapore.
