Default US Airways 1968 San Juan PR to Boston unwanted flight cancelation

US Airways refuses to respond to twice-sent complaint about a return flight from San Juan to Boston, mistakenly canceled through no fault of ours. US Airways charged $ 317 for a new ticket and pocketed the original flight payment. That's one way for them to make money, but I'll never fly US Airways again.

Default US Air Ways Flight Cancelation San Juan - Boston

Version:1.0 StartHTML:0000000160 EndHTML:0000004939 StartFragment:0000002160 EndFragment:0000004903 SourceURL:file:///Users/stanley/Desktop/Letters/USAir This concerns what was originally US Airways record locator FRJ33Z, for a return flight from San Juan, PR to Boston for my wife, Barbara Eskin, on your flight1968, Feb 25, 2010. This is the flight she took; nothing was changed on the San Juan – Boston part—the main part of the trip.

What happened was the following: We had originally booked a round-trip flight from San Juan to Ponce, a 15-minute flight to the other side of the island. We took the SJ-Ponce flight on Feb. 11. Then we changed our plans and decided to rent a car and tour the island, returning the car at San Juan airport. My wife called Cape Air on Feb 16 to cancel the short return flight from Ponce to San Juan of Feb 25.

What followed was near chaos. It seems the result of that call was that the entire return trip to Boston was canceled. I stayed on, as planned, and returned to Boston on March 3 with American. It was AA which pointed out that that the flight had been canceled, but was decent enough to reissue me another ticket with only a small fee adjustment.

US Airways, however, refused to reissue a ticket and charged my wife $ 317 for a new ticket. I don’t care about a Cape Air refund, which would be minimal. The call was partly a matter of courtesy, to release unused seats. But from that to canceling the whole return trip is outrageous. I requested a refund for the $ 317, or some adjustment, which was record locator EWFGZ3, still for flight 1968.

The key here is that they were part of one trip, and the airlines, to try to protect their ridiculously byzantine pricing system, automatically cancel the whole trip if any part of the trip is missed. This leads to ridiculous anomolies such as yours, but is designed to prevent people from exploiting their stupid pricing rules.

US Airways is close to the bottom of airlines likely to help you. Delta would have charged you a whole lot more that $317, but as you found AA were more flexible. This illustrates there are differences. I would give up trying to get blood from a stone and do the only thing which can be done. Never fly US Airways again.
