Default Canceled flight and no Refund

I was on the flight from Boston to Norway Via newark airpot my flight was canceled due to volcanic ash in newark.so I was in newark airport stuck for 2 days ,had to pay for my own hotel and 2 days later the told me it could be longer so took the bus to boston and I missed my best frd wedding also lost days from my holiday from work on top of all this Continental staff were not helpful in answering question and made me wait for hours and hours on the phone waitting for questions to be answred and waitting for my refund and at the end the refunded me with 340 out of 740 I have no clue what was the reason or why I had to call and ask but had to wait for hours and hours on the phone ...the Ironic part is that after waitting more than half an our they transfer ur call to different department and then u have to wait another 30min and if u r lucky u might get and answer or the tell u got to ask alex online..

and alex dosent have any answer ...

Until now I am still waiting on the phone ...waiting for my questions to be answer...

The best you might be able to get, is credit towards another flight. The flight cancellation was from circumstance beyond the airline's control. Europe closed it's airspace.

Keep in mind there are people that were stuck for this for as much as 10 days. And yes, you probably had to sit on hold for quite some time. How many other passengers do you think were jamming up the phone lines the same as you were? As stated this was a situation that the airline had absolutely no control over. And if the air space is closed, it's closed. And on top of that, it's not like they could have put you on a bus.

When a volcano erupts, no one is to blame. Continental had no obligation to pay for your hotel or additional expenses. Why should they? They had no control over the events.

However, I find it extraordinary that they feel that they are entitled to not refund your money or to only make a partial refund. What legal basis do they have for that? They were unable to perform the service you had paid for. Once you had missed the wedding there was no point in making the journey. You should therefore receive a full refund. I would consider complaining to the DOT about this.

The logic of not making a full refund escapes me. Furthermore, it would be utterly outrageous to force you to take a voucher. You may never wish to fly with them again. Under what premise should you be forced to do so?

when the volcano erupted a couple weeks ago i was stranded in germany for an extra week after my flight i was suppose to work was cancelled over and over again. now my company has a crew trying to fly to Italy and currently in EWR trying to get out but the volcano is acting up again. last i heard is that they were delayed 2 hours
