Close second to Delta as worst airline
I usually don’t write to airlines and blog spots to complain about the service due to the fact that lack luster domestically owned airline service seems to be the norm these days, but I felt that I must write and share with you my experiences on my transpacific and connecting flights with Continental.
On May 27th my trip to Bangkok started with an uneventful connecting flight from Corpus Christi to Houston. I then boarded Continental flight #7 to Tokyo Narita and took my aisle seat. Right before taking off a little girl walked up to my row crying. She told the gentleman seated next to me "I want to set next to you daddy". The flight attendant asked me (I'm 6 foot, 300 lbs) to move to a center seat to accommodate the little girl. How could I say no even though I booked this flight and chose this seat months ago to accommodate my large body. The flight attendant said he would comp my drinks. As our flight was underway, it turns out the flight attendant reneged and said he would only comp one drink. I didn't complain, I'm not much of a drinker anyway. The flight landed on time and I transferred to my Bangkok flight on Thai Airways.
On June 8th I traveled back from Bangkok to Narita. I disembarked my Thai Airways flight and reboarded Continental Airlines flight #6 back to Houston. Once everyone was on board the captain announced that there was an Oxygen bottle problem and it would take 2 hours to fix. After around 1.5 hours the Captain said the crew misdiagnosed to problem and now said it was a regulator. As we sat on the plane the flight attendants served drinks. Seated toward the back, our rows was last to get served. I asked for a ginger ale and the attendant gave me a bag of pretzels and a napkin, moved the cart back to the rear and started to do something else. after a few minutes I asked another attendant for my drink and she spoke up in a loud voice "What's wrong with this guy, why didn't you serve him" everyone turned and looked at me like I done something wrong. The attendant was joking but everyone didn't know that. After at least 2.5 hours we took off and landed.
Since I missed my connecting flight, I needed to rebook. I left customs and went to find the ticket counters. There was no one to help guide all of us late passengers so I had to ask a police officer where the Continental counter was. Once I got there I could see many people lined up with only 6 representative helping (Picture attached). I waited and waited. After 45 min. A lady at another counter yelled, "I cant someone over here". Several of us left the line and lined up behind her. She helped one person with their luggage the told the next person in line that she was just helping with luggage and we all needed to go to the back of the line we was just standing in. I asked her if she could please send someone out to help direct people lined up around the corner to which line to stand in. She just looked at me like she hated me (picture attached). After several minutes a person came out and started to help guide people in line. After a long wait I got a ticket to the 7:00 flight to Corpus Christi and rushed to catch my flight. At the gate the attendant said "Sorry folks, we are missing our plane and our flight crew" After the crew showed up and they found the plane, we left Houston.
Once in Corpus Christi, I went to claim my luggage and it never showed. After several minutes a attendant came out and said to the 30 or so people waiting "Sorry, we lost all of your luggage. Line up in my office to make a claim." I was then directed to the ticket counter to talk with another representative. The man said maybe its on another flight due here at 10:30 p.m. but if its not I cant help you. He was very apathetic and I was about fed up at this point. He said check back tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. maybe we can find it by then. I told him my keys are in that bag and I can't leave. He shrugged his shoulders. I told him "Nothing personal, I have been up a couple of days but I think the company you work for is unprofessional." A lady that walked in from the back door tried to "one up" me and said "So, I been up for 3 days". I was upset so I went to wait the 3 hours to see if my bags was on the next flight. It was and I left.
Your motto is "Work Hard, Fly Right." Well I do work hard and I did not fly right and I am very careful where I spend my money. I am also a loyal consumer when treated well, I used to fly exclusively with another carrier until they done something to this similar to me. This experience will not be forgotten when booking my next flight. I have traveled the world and flown with many airlines, foreign and domestic, Lufthansa, BMI, Thai Airways, JAL, etc.... but never do I have the same troubles as I do with domestically owned airlines. Why is that?
Sincerely,
Regretful consumer
