I am a Diamond Medallion member with Delta and have flown 16 segements in the last 29 days. 3 have been cancelled and over 50% delayed. Has anyone else noticed a major deterioration in Delta's performance this summer? I would be fired if I performed like that and am going to have to find a more reliable travel partner. All my cancellations this month have been going out of Newark. Is it the airport or the airline?
7/9/2010 Delta 2743 EWR - ATL Cancelled 7/26/2010 Delta 4013 EWR - DTW Cancelled 8/1/2010 Delta 3098 EWR - DTW Cancelled |

A roughly 20% cancellation rate is ridiculous and 50% being delayed is as bad or worse. To answer your question, more info is needed. Why were the flights cancelled? What caused the delays?
EWR in the summer is probably not a great place to be flying from but it certainly is better than LGA. |

If everyone of the delays and cancellations were due to mechanical issues then yes thats appalling numbers. However if most of them were canceled due to weather then Delta is not to blame.

You're right, which is why I asked what caused the cancellations and delays. However, my gut tells me mother nature didn't have a hand in the majority of the problems.

The flights on 7/9 and 7/26 were mechanical. They never even told me why my flight on 8/1 was cancelled.
I have 2 questions I would appreciate feedback from folks on: 1. Have people noticed a deterioriation in service since the Delta/NWA merger? 2. Being a fact based person, does anyone know where I can go to get the data to compare cancellations/on time arrivals pre and post merger? I don't have a choice, I have to fly and fly a lot. I had to log 140 segments and/or 125,000 in 2010 to get Diamond status with Delta. What surprises me the most is that, with all of the problems (at one point I had 5 consectutive flights cancelled or significantly delayed), Delta never made any effort to contact me in anyway nor offered me any type of compensation at all. If this is how they treat their frequent flyers, I would hate to see how they treat the occassional flyer. Cancellations and delays seriously impact my job performance. I used to live in Minneapolis so I didn't have too much choice in airlines but now I live in New York. Continental has offered to match my elite status so maybe I'll give them a shot. |

All airlines face weather and problems. Delta are consistently at the bottom of the league in on time performance and significantly worse than Continental. I would switch for two reasons... the first their performance itself, but the most significant, Delta have become very arrogant. Their treatment of customers is appalling and these boards are testiment to the sheer scale of the "delta" problem compared to other airlines. Time to change I think. I would accept Continental's offer.

This just looks like an ontime list from a particular month. Malleydc is looking for a comparative list, which I provided, although it won't be easy to navigate.
Maybe you should learn how to use a computer before trying to post complicated things such as a list.

Thanks for the data. I am going to dump it into a spreadsheet and try and see if I can compare Delta and Northwest on-time arrivals pre merger with the on-time arrivals of the combined new "Delta" to see if there was a deterioriation in service levels. I'll let you know what I find.
On another note, I am taking my first Continental flight in a long time, I'll let you know how it compares. |

I did crunch the data and it does show a decrease in on-time arrivals/on-time departures after the merger (NWA and Delta had better on-time departure/arrivals before they merged). However, to be fair, my analysis was limited and does not adjust for seasonality so the issue could be increased delays due to the time of year (e.g. higher incidence of delay/cancellations in my travel locations during the summer months).
On another note, if you are a frequent flyer and change hubs or are tired of a particular airline, other airlines will match your status so you do not have to start from scratch. Don't let FF miles chain you to a poor airline. Example from Continental below. OnePass offers a promotion that could match the current earned elite status of another airline frequent flyer program with an equivalent level in the OnePass Elite program. Some airlines are not eligible for this program and it may not be processed at the airport. We will need to review documents from the eligible airline. You may submit an e-mail attachment* or mail the documents along with your OnePass account number to: OnePass Elite Match PO Box 4757 Houston, TX 77210-4757 *The following file types may be included as attachments in your e-mail: doc, pdf, rtf, txt, xls, bmp, gif, jpg, jpeg, png, tif and tiff. We strongly suggest that personal data; such as a passport, driver’s license or Social Security number not be attached in an e-mail. Please include the following information: -Full Name -OnePass Account Number -Current Address -Current Phone Number -A copy of the most recent statement from the other airline showing status and current mileage -A copy of your current elite card from the other airline |
