US Airways Trying to Extort $1300 from my 84-year-old mother
My 84 year old mother fell ill prior to taking a flight to go to her grandson's wedding earlier this summer. I contacted US Airways well in advance of the flight to let them know she would not be using her first class ticket -- I did this because I thought I was doing them a favor by letting them know so they could resell the seat -- which they did..I took that same flight, sat in first class -- and low and behold there was a woman sitting next to me who was not my mother.
After contacting the company (prior to and after the flight) by email numerous times and several phone calls - I was told to send a letter from her doctor saying she cannot fly and they would issue a refund. Well we did that -- sent the letter and then they came back with --oh, by the way -- the person can only get a refund if it is a life threatening illness...no where on their web site does it say this and not once did any of their reps tell me this -- also, tell me -- when an 84-year-old woman is told by her doctor not to fly -- is that not life threatening enough? Perhaps US Airways wants to have a person die on one of their flights?!?!?
Anyway - the airlines finally came back with ok - we will allow you to sign the ticket over to another person, after you get a notarized letter stating...blah, blah, blah...not such a convenient thing to do for sick 84 year old woman...would they like some of her blood as well?!?!?! AND then they have the nerve to say they are going to charge her $150 to make this change --soon they will be charging $150 to make reservations or to use the lousy bathroom on the plane --it is $150 for everything...rip-off!!! What's next charging to access their web site or to have ozygen the plane...!?!?!
We will never fly US Airwqays again -- it is shameful the way they are treating my mother. And by the way --it is not worth flying first class with US Airways -- seats were horribly uncomfortable - food was lousy - service overall stunk!!
We are in a battle with US Airways --I will not surrender to their threat tatics -- their correspondence is atrocious - their customer service stinks -- they are purposely ambiguous in their correspondence and on the phone...no customer service etiquette!!!
Who is the customer - the airlines act as though they are doing us a big favor by allowing us to fly on their planes...well I have news for them -- we are the customer - we are the ones who pay -- we are the ones who should be favored --
