Default Reserved seat changes

On a recent trip from SRQ to MHT ( DL 2298, 776), Delta changed our reserved seats on two of the four legs, I caught one during on line check in, the other occurred as we gave our passes to the gate agent who took them and gave us two new ones. One flight (776) our new seats were in row 44, next to the lavs, no recline, no underseat storage. On Flight 2298 we were apart by about 20 rows. The reason given was there was a change of equipment. When questioned as to what aircraft was now flying, it turned out it was the same model I booked months prior. The seats I reserved were in the same place, only with other people in them. Complaints to Delta resulted in corporate spin on needs of the company, and reserving a seat does not mean it is yours. Since we were traveling on one paid ticket and one Am Exp companion ticket ($99), I feel we were bumped. Is this common?

It is very common for Delta to lie to their customers. It happens time and again. The culture within that company is lie and get them away from the desk.

It happened to me for Xmas trip. My wife, daughter and I were seated together in row 17. Luckily I checked the day before traveling, always do since you can't trust the airlines, only to find all three of us were moved to the back in all different rows. To top it off, plenty of seats were available up front. But, any seat above row thirty was now a premimum seat required an additional purchase. Call Delta and spent 45 minutes on the phone to finally get resolved, only after a supervisor stated she was during a one time good will and this is not normal for her to Place us back in the original rows we were reserved in. UNBELIEVABLE

This scam is outrageous and is evidence of the kind of customer abuse airlines can get away with. They know people have limited choice and they are essentially unregulated when it comes for fares and charges. Re-regulation is long overdue.
