AC E90 flight Edmonton to Montreal 09-Jan-2012
On Monday, January 9, 2012, I had the unfortunate experience to fly on Air Canada, flight 186, Edmonton to Montreal. The craft was your E90 with a capacity of 9 business (J) and 84 economy (Y) seats. By my count there were 13 empty passenger seats in Y class and possibly more.
Mid-way through the flight, the cabin crew came through and proffered a second offering of the onboard café. The cabin attendant indicated that there were no more sandwiches or meals left on the plane. It was explained to me that there is inadequate food storage areas for the almost 4 hours of flight time (Edmonton to Montreal) and for the number of passengers, given even that the plane was less than 85% at capacity. Also, the heated food facilities were only used for business class passengers. The attendant then had to apologize several more times going to the back of the craft for not having enough food for the duration of the trip.
I must commend the cabin crew for their diplomat skills in defusing the level of frustration on board the plane. However, I must rebuke Air Canada for its unconcerned atitutude toward customer comfort. Travelling for 4 hours with inadequate food or facilities is expected in some locales, but not in Canada.
This plane is still flying this route with the same supply levels.
