Default Spirit's Deceptive Policy on Golf Bags

Decided to give Spirit a try, recognizing that their pricing model is different than other U.S airlines. Going on a trip with golf clubs, so will need to check them. Luckily, I thought, Spirit allows golf bags to be classified as checked luggage, i.e., $28 for the first checked bag and not subject to the oversize baggage limits. Now I find out that Spirit means only the SIZE limitations, not the WEIGHT limitations, which is 40 pounds. Anyone know of any set of golf clubs and bag and travel bag that weighs less than 40 pounds? CONSUMERS BEWARE: SPIRIT'S GOLF BAG EXCEPTION IS NOT REALLY AND EXCEPTION.
