A couple of days ago I flew from San Antonio to Dallas Texas then onto another destination. When we deplaned in Dallas, the Stewardess came on the speaker and told us to pick up after ourselves, fold the balnkets, place them on the chair, close the window shade and bring up any trash....she added, so that our next passengers can quickly board.You never heard so much bad language, negative comments, sarcastic laughter, boos and anger from the passengers. The audacity of this woman thinking that after WE PAY AN AMERICAN to fly we also have to clean the plane for them? People were yelling, "So, do I have to vacum and clean toliets too? Her demands backfired as people left the window shade up, tossed the blankets and dumped trash where they could! Disgusting flight and stewardess!! |

Is AA becoming Southwest? I've actually heard a similar announcement on a Southwest flight. Something like this: "To help us keep fares low we'd like to be able to board the next flight as soon as possible. Would you please assist us by straightening the seatbelts, disposing of any trash in the seatback pockets...etc" (Perhaps I shouldn't use quotes because I'm paraphrasing.) Maybe this FA has taken one to many flights on Southwest and thought this was a good idea?
I searched the internet and couldn't find the story, but I know I read somewhere that AA recently did a "We Heard You" type press release saying tha5theywere aware of the shoddy interiors on some of their aircraft and they were working to improve the situation. In addition to more frequent and thorough cleaning they accelerated delivery of some 737-800s to replace the aging MD-80 fleet. It sounds like another idea they are implementing is having the customer become the employee and cleaning the planes for them. What I would suggest is that if you indeed participated in the cleanup then send AA an invoice for your services. Tell them you are President and CEO of TXChampaign Janitorial, LLC and are billing them for aircraft cleaning services rendered. That ought to get their attention. |

I loved what you said about sending them a bill. I had the same thought but when you complain they start adding comments under the passenger name. This a a fact and don't anyone tell me it is not. An airline employyee told me this. Once they see the comments, it predisposes them to treat you poorly..okay moreso than they normally do. Continental Airlines has some of the rudest people in the electronic help desk,. They are nasty, vulgar peoplewho serve no purpose!

I trust your behavior was respectful unlike the rest on board. Is too much to ask that people put things back the way they got it? Really...it only takes 30 seconds to close the window shade, fold your blanket and put up your trash. Sure, it is the flight attendant's job but it would take much longer. Time is very important at airports if you have not noticed. So many people complain about the length of time it takes to turn a flight around and passenger behavior is part of the problem. Maybe if passengers just acted like grown ups and pick up after themselves, time and money can be saved. The aircraft is supposed to be given a quick spot clean by the next FA who will be working the flight but in many cases it is impossible to pick up the trash, situate the magazines in proper order, make sure there is ice, and check the emergency systems in 20 minutes. This problem contributes to many of the delays. Passenger behavior often does not help. The CEOs of airlines think this is a great idea since this is somewhat cost effective. Wherever the aircraft is parked overnight, the ground crew gives the aircraft a good cleaning. But this is usually done in overtime and many of the employees are more concerned with going home after working 10 or more hours. PHXFlyer: I believe part of the reason the MDs are being phased out is because they are not as fuel efficient as the other counter parts. The airlines discvered this last summer when the fuel costs soared. |

Just why and since when, do I have to clean the plane? I am not paid for this and resent being asked to do the stewardess' job. If AA would stop booking flights back to back and be on time, then she wouldn't have this problem. HAVE THEY NOT LEARNED ANYTHING ABOUT GREED? She gets paid for this and I pay,(lots of money) to fly to a destination.You have to be an airline employee or ex-employee because you should be as outraged as the rest of us were after hearing such a ludicrous demand! |

It is a part of the Stewardess job to pick up after passengers leave.

i have heard from southwest and allegiant to check the seat back pockets for any garbage that you may have put there and please hand it to the flight attendant collecting trasht etc. or to cross the seatbelts. this is all for a quick turn, especially if the plane is behind schedule. yes they have people that are paid to do this and in the summer time it helps to lower the window shade to help keep the plane cool. but would it have killed those people to take 5 seconds to lower that shade?? no!! i do agree that the blanket thing is a but much, that is not the passengers job. you claim the flight attendants were disgusting and rude? how about the passengers that were rude as you stated.
how is this for a complaint...(yes i am a flight attendant and i clean up trash, its my job in the air but not on the ground) how about all the passengers that seem to think its ok to put their chewed up gum in the seat back pocket? their snot on the side of the walls on the aircraft? their trash all over the floor? ask this...."do you toss your crap on the floor at your home?" i dont think so, so why do it on the aircraft. btw, im not saying this to the original poster, but to anybody who flies and thinks trashing an aircraft is ok. |

maybe at AA,but not (skywest, or TMA or Ryan) however, (and i know not all the time) the flight attendants come up and down the aisle with trash bags, why dont people put their trash in there?? i fly as a passenger all the time for work and wouldn't leave my crap in the seat back pocket, but when i get off the plane (unite, AA, nw, which ever) the plane is a disaster area, people refuse to throw things in trash bags.

the passengers didnt need to be so immature and crybabies, if your not gonna do what was asked than just leave it and dont make it harder for the flight attendants, thats just uncalled for
and is it hard not to pick up your own trash? or put the shade down? folding the blanket is too much but it takes 2 secs tops to do the other requests |

and dont even get me started on some of the things i have found in the seatback pockets. take your nasty kleenex and throw it away yourself. i wish some passengers would take into consideration that people have to clean those, i dont want to touch your kleenex, baby diapers, chewed up food etc. throw it in the garbage bag...PLEASE!!!

so because a flight attendant would ask you to close the window shade you would be rude like that??? i just flew UA from dulles to KWI and when we landed we were also asked to close the window shades...not one person complained. if i were the next passenger to get on that plane i would be thrilled, this plane is sitting in kuwait for 6 hours in 115 degree heat. what is so hard about closing the window shade? it takes 2 seconds??

This thread is pointless. Clean up after yourself and maybe an extra ticket stub left in the seat back from another passenger previous.
OH and by the way don't stick gum on the wall?! Like either of those 2 are such a hard concept to grasp. It's not like they asked you to bust out a mop and vacum. |

I'm thinking what the FA had in mind, and presented it badly, was just tidying up a bit before leaving the plane. Like at a movie theater, throw your drink cups and popcorn bucket in the trash on the way out, instead of leaving a huge mess.
Me, I do it without being asked. I was raised with respect, and not self entitlement. |
