I know nothing can be done about this NEW practice but charging $70.00 per person to select seats in advance is a shock. I have never had to do this before. Is it only Air Canada or do ALL airlines do it?

A LOT of airlines do it. I'm flying usairways next week to mco for an interview...no seat, and the only ones open are their choice seats for $25. You usually end up with a decent choice seat for free if you don't pay. I always take a chance. I wont ever pay ahead for a seat.

If I were travelling alone I would not have paid, but as I would like to sit next to my husband I didn't want to take a chance as there have been issues in the past.
