Jet Airways poor with young families
I recently travelled on Jet Airways from Delhi to London on a long haul flight. I travelled with my son (age 2.5 years), my wife and my baby daughter (age 4 months).
I had one business class ticket and two economy tickets. In order to make the journey easier for my wife I paid INR 29,400 (about GBP 300) to upgrade my wife’s ticket to business class so that she could travel more comfortably with the baby, especially as she had been through a difficult childbirth and was still suffering from some side effects.
However, the staff who checked us in took the payment in my wife's name but in error upgraded my son’s ticket rather than my wife’s with the result that only me and my son were allowed to travel in business class. When we got on board the staff were very uncooperative and refused to allow my wife to sit in business class even though the error was caused by their own staff. It was clear that they did not want an infant in business class, even though we had paid for the upgrade! They cited company policies and told us that becuase of the weight allocation of the aircraft the baby (and therefore the monther) had to go in economy! How much difference does a 4kg baby really make to weight allocation?? The attitude of the staff was very disappointing. Everyone travelling with young children knows how stressful it can be and then to pay for an upgrade and not get any benefits is a complete let down and I am not travelling this airline again and will tell others about my experience.
This caused us a lot of inconvenience as my wife had to sit in economy with the baby. The money that we spent was completely wasted becuase the whole point was to give my wife a comfortable journey. Once we got on board the crew on board were not sympathetic at all in spite of the fact that the mistake was made by Jet Airways staff and insisted that my wife sit in economy. This experience has left us very disappointed with their service and attitude towards people travelling with young families was very disappointing, especially when we had paid for two business class fares!
