Default Newborn baby seat assignment taken away

I booked a flight over the phone 6 months in advance so that my newborn baby (not even born at the time but now 6 weeks old) would have a seat next to me and my husband. I paid for the seat for the newborn AND paid an extra fee to book over the phone because he wasn't born at the time.

Now one month before our flight, the flight was changed and now my newborn doesn't have a seat assignment at all!! I was told by supervisor Niko (ID #V050757) for United when I called to complain that I need to talk to the gate agent about it. How is this now MY responsibility to get corrected?!

I planned ahead and already paid extra fees to have my newborn son's seat taken away and added stress when I get to the airport!!NOT GOOD SERVICE!!
