Default Reservations cancelled without notice

Dear forum users,

I made a reservation on Delta.com website with confirmation code and e-ticket number that comes in an email. The payment also went through my credit card. Two days later I logged into my account and there is no upcoming travel. After calling Delta reservations, I found my reservation was cancelled. There was no notification and I did not know it was cancelled until this point.

I asked Delta to restore my itinerary, but it would cost $150 more for the same flight, and after 1hr of arguing, there is no way they can do other than booking a new flight (and they insist that someone else called to cancel my reservation instead of due to their end). It was clear that the supervisor at the reservation department did not want to do anything about this and I gave up. I will book another flight with some other airline, any of them will cost me at least $100 more now.

Please advice on how to and to what extend I should ask for the compensations, I'm drafting an email to customer service asking for reimbursement on the extra cost of the ticket, and I'm all ears for your opinions, or similar experiences. Thank you!

Write to them. Tell them you had a contract, provide all the print outs and tell them they are in breach of the contract. Advise them you did not cancel the contract (if you did there would have been penalties). Give them 5 days to restore your booking. Tell them if they don't, you will book with another carrier, and you will hold them liable for your consequential damages, and will sue in small claims. Then follow through. If they don't restore the booking, they will either settle just before you get to court or they will not show and you get the judgement by default. (Unless they can prove you cancelled).

When any action is taken in a reservation record someone's identification is recorded during that action. There ought also be some reference to who made the cancellation, I would never have cancelled an itinerary from a phone call without asking "To whom am I speaking?" at the very least. Do what jimworcs says, sounds like someone messed up; did you get a full refund of the funds you paid?
