Fewer airports and better weather. The Islands usually get a brief rain almost ever day but it's usually not enough to interfere with operations very much.

Alaska usually does well over the summer. Once they get fog in southeast AK and it's sub-zero in the northern cities their reliability goes down somewhat.

Continental sent out a "Tweet" this morning:

CO ranked 1st among U.S. network airlines with DOT on-time 88.4% in September.

Now they are first amongst those considered "legacy airlines" however I'd say both Alaska and Frontier are really network airlines. I guess they can use almost any language to make them look good. "We're #1! Hoorah..." But you're really #7..."But we're #1 of the 'network airlines'...hip hip hooray!" OK Continental, we won't rain on your parade lest it foul up your October numbers!
