Since TSA has demanded that our ID's exactly match our tickets I've asked Mileage plus to add the "jr" suffix to my name on my account but they tell me that it is impossible. United told me to make my middle initial "jr" but my travel agency refuses to do this saying that TSA won't accept it.
I still get my mileage credit but when my reservation is made with the "Jr" it doesen't put my status (Premier Executive) on my ticket, so the counter agents want me to pay for my luggage and I don't get my automatic upgrades. The counter agents have been great but they are powerless to change anything. I'm getting sick of this (I fly every week) and I can't believe that this company's data people or the mileage plus people can't fix this. Anybody else had similar problems? Thanks |

jimworks you heard about the bestbuy exec? from what i can tell he is a pretty classy laid back guy, im tired of all these up tight execs that dont know what slacks are, they even shower with their $100,000 suits on!
i dont think its just an America thing either haha, they tend to mess up when it comes to jr and all that stuff no matter what company, and most companies dont give a hoot if you have it there or not, most the time its personal choice and ease of knowing who's mail it is why united has difficulty is wierd, i know in many sites with personal info there is a box that you click on and scroll down to jr. i guess united is still tryin to fix things up my neighbor got a free roundtrip ticket from United for no apparent reason, so he used it to go to Tokyo i believe, later it was found out that it was sent to the wrong address in the same town with the same name (common name) but how he was able to use it still baffled both of us, it was a good laugh |

I'm a 3rd. My driver's license has only my middle initial while my passport has my full middle name. Both are appended by "III" but depending on which airline I fly sometimes the "III" is included on the ticket and sometimes not. I had some similar issues as you with Alaska Airlines.
The whole TSA mandate with respect to "secure flight" is a huge load of bunk. It's just another smoke screen the TSA is throwing out there to make us "feel" more safe while the system is still vulnerable in many ways. To this day the majority of cargo and mail that sits merely inches under out feet when we fly isn't screened while at TSA checkpoints they confiscate hair gel and toothpaste. "Secure Flight" was sold to the airlines and the flying public as a way to solve issues of passengers with similar names to those on "watch lists" who were subject to additional screening and in some cases had to prove their identity before they were allowed to fly. What is really going on is that the government has found yet another way to invade out privacy and keep track of everywhere we go and everything we do. Supposedly we have the freedom to travel within this country any time and anywhere. Of course we're free to do so but just who is keeping track of out every move? fishenfool, don't sweat the details of how your name appears on your Mileage Plus account. If you book a ticket on United.com there is a drop down menu where you can select "Jr." for the purposes of "secure Flight" matching. As long as your last name matches the Mileage Plus account there should be no issues. Tell your travel agent to append your last name with "JR" with no spaces. Do not make JR the middle name or initial. For example, on your e-ticket your name should appear as: FOOL/FISHENJR not: FOOLJR/FISHEN This is how my name has always appeared on my tickets and my status has always been recognized. If it causes an issue with recognizing your status just have the travel agent issue the ticket as they always have then have them call United. Most airlines who are "Secure Flight" compliant at this time have the ability to add a second entry only for TSA use with your full name as it appears on your ID. This shouldn't interfere with the ticketed name or status recognition. Good luck. |

I don't believe the TSA is interested in the JR. part at the end. What they mean by exactly as it appears on your ID is that Dave is not the same as David, etc. My understanding is that as long as first, middle and last names are as they appear on your ID, then you are fine. The other thing is it's not unusual for people to go by their middle name, and commonly use that. My father does this. He has a very odd first name, and a more common middle name, so even on legal documents he has used his middle name, but his driver's license shows his proper name, hence that is how he would have to travel.
If your millage plus account has your full name the same as on your ID, don't worry about the JR. part. Last edited by Jetliner; Nov 7, 2009 at 4:31 AM. |
