You can pay $10 (with as many people who want to) to get checked in in a "preferred" boarding status. This gets you nothing. Being one of the 1st on the flight, I found out Southwest has NO RULE to prevent saving seats. So the only other exit row seat was "being saved" for someone who didn't pay the 10 bucks. The flight attendant told us to "duke it out" where upon I realized if I make a fuss they can throw me off the plane. I complain to SW and they say oh, sorry. Too bad. How about giving me my 10 bucks back?
From now on I'm giving $5 to someone in the front of the line to save me a seat in the exit row. Problem solved. |

Sounds to me like you just need to be a bit assertive and sit where you desire. This isn't a WN problem, this was a problem between you and another passenger. I agree that the F/A should have been more helpful. But if you want a seat and it's open, then sit down in it.
BTW, posting this complaint twice doesn't make it more important. |

Yes, I agree that it is tough to deal with rude passengers, and I would be tempted to just sit in the seat, but the advantage on SW of early boarding is available space in the overheads. Way too much carry on baggage and the overheads just get stuffed.

Yeah - be assertive - aggressive even - climb over the a*hole and cause a scene. Have you heard of people being tossed off flights for doing this?? Or are you just a "judge" who sits back and judges people. What a **** - standing up for something which is clearly not right.

My name's not ****, it's Troy. And if you're not assertive enough to claim a seat that you paid extra money to board early to get, don't get upset at me. You need to be upset at Mr. Holding a Seat. I'm just advising you that if you want an open seat, sit in it. If you don't want to, then don't but don't blame me for your shyness.
And yes, I've heard of people being tossed off flights but not for sitting in an open seat. I've even had to remove people from flights myself but it was for a bit more than what you are trying to imply. Again, you paid extra to board. There was an open seat that you wanted but didn't take cuz some guy was acting like a schoolboy and saving it for his cheap buddy who didn't want to pay. Man up and sit down where you want or tell his buddy to give you the 10 bucks back you spent to board early. |

Man up says the 5'2" 105 pound geek behind the keyboard. Read the post, Richard, the flight attendant - a guy flight attendant - was standing right there. Trust me - it won't happen twice - next time I'll pretend he's you and take his seat. Don't bother replying, unless this is your whole life "former airline employee" I won't be reading any more posts. Unless you're trying to impress some beauty whose face you'll never see unless you actually move out of your parent's basement.

It is unfortunate that the airlines puts customers in such a position by either not having some commmon sense rules or failing to enforce the rules. Passengers should not save seats when they are on a first come basis. The flight crew never hesitates to be assertive when their ox is gored and will have you tossed off the plane or arrested in a heartbeat. Ihave come across some very incredible flight crews who are very helpful and fair and then I have run across the a-holes who would never have the courage to talk to you in such a poor manner if they met you on the street. I blame the airlines, not the people who post on these forums.

The few times I have been forced to fly Southwest and even living across from Love, I would rather drive to DFW and fly American, United, Luthsansa, BA. I have to say I usually don't have trouble getting the "saving this seat" of coarse if helps to be 5'7 fairly good shape, shaved head, sunglasses, if hot weather a tank top (moving and lifting coffins and bodys is the best workout one can have so in fairly good shape), in cold weather, weathered and used leather biker jacket and wearing a 2 gauge ear ring. most people don't want to mess with me and my ex made me look like the nice one
really scarey when they hear I am in the funeral industry. Funny most kids then want to sit by me and hear about all the "nasty and narly" stuff I have seen
