Angry Rude Flight Attendant / Crew Member

I was on flight 6352 from San Francisco to Tucson when I was scolded by the flight attendant for having traded seats with my traveling companion right after the seat belt announcement. She quickly walked to us with a stern warning that we must fasten our seat-belts even though that's exactly what we were doing. She argued that the plane was moving. When I questioned her later and told her the plane was ** not ** moving, she said, "It doesn't matter. When the seat-belt light is on, you must remain seated." I told her I wanted her name and customer service number to file a complaint. She said she could give me the number for TSA, which I declined. A few minutes later, she gave me a napkin with the email address for United Customer Care, but her name was not listed. When I walked by her on the way to the exit door, I asked if I could have her name, at which point I was escorted by Mr. Bully, an arrogant crew member who told me I had broken the law without even giving me a chance to explain. He was extremely rude; told me to stand by the wall and even said he could call the police on me, but he wouldn't. He tried to rub on my face that the flight attendant was "the boss". I said, "not my boss, maybe yours". This guy had a very nasty attitude from beginning to end. When he repeated the seat-belt mantra, I told him I had already heard it twice on the plane. When I told him I had to go since my ride was waiting for me outside, he flatly said I wouldn't be allowed to leave until I acknowledged I had understood the seat-belt information. To keep my friend from waiting on me, I told him, "I do understand", and he let me go. This experience left a very bad impression on me about United Airlines lousy customer service to the point where I won't fly this company EVER AGAIN!!!

You should complain to UA for tolerating this bottom scraping subcontractor Skywest Airlines. They are absolutely the worst of the worst. The trouble is that they fly regional jet flights for ALL the major airlines so even if you avoid flying UA, you will not be able to avoid flying Skywest. Especially in Tucson. They operate flights for American, Delta, and US Air there.

If the seatbelt sign was turned on and you anyway moved, the attendant was right in hurrying up on you, why could you not wait until the flight was airborne? - what were you going to complain about at that point? - you clearly did not respect the rules.

FA's really have become power crazed. Once you were off the aircraft, I am not at all sure that the FA had any powers to detain you and certainly didn't have the power to tell you that you could not leave until you had said that you understood the seat belt information. These morons think they are in a quasi-law enforcement role...they are not and most of them are far too stupid to carry the responsibility they do.

Bilingual... even if he was breaching the rules, which it sounds like he was, it doesn't give the FA carte blanche to behave like something out of Nazi Germany.

What did she do? - lets read it, and please stop using the boring Godwins law, even from the passenger POW there does not seem to be any mistreatment:

I cant see the problem, if the flight is going to depart and all other seats had been checked for use of seatbelts, then it is ok to ask the passengers to hurry up, when they switch seats at a inconvenient time.

Again - she is right, whether the plane was moving or not misses the point, that all seatbelts should be fastened before the plane is moving.

If you re-read my post, I don't really have too much of a beef with Ms Snarky... my beef was with Mr. Bully and his attempts to "detain" the passenger until he acknowledged that he understood the seat belt rules. That is just pathetic.

I'd be lost without my skynazi fallback.....

Whenever you see "operated by Skywest" or "operated by Expressjet" (they're both owned by Skywest), if at all possible, choose a different airline.

I have no patience with people that are quick to invoke the "rules" and the "law". The rules and the law exist to be questioned. Had not Rosa Parks questioned the back-seat law in the 60s, it's possible that Blacks would still be riding in the back of buses in this country today (instead of being at the White House). Let's face it: There are a lot of stupid regulations in place these days, especially after 9/11, rules that are curbing our civil rights, and some (like you probably) are saying "thank you for taking away my freedoms and giving me back personal security." LOL... I did have a reason to get up when the seat-belt sign was on, but I won't tell you why. I don't give information to my opponents, especially when they are a stranger and a "sympathizer" of the airline I'm complaining about. In case you haven't noticed, I also alluded to the Gestapo-like tactics used by United. I vowed that I won't ever fly this again airline, no matter what morons like you say! Ever since this incident, I flew another airline and had a wonderful experience.
