We left the gate to depart and waited on tarmac... After waiting on tarmac for who knows how long we were told flight was cancelled because the deicer was broken and it was not safe for us to fly. They took us back to the gate and had us wait to see if the flight could be fixed and/or if another flight could be flown. We were told initial plane would not be safe to go up in air with hail storm possible. Later we were told this flight was scheduled to be fixed on its return from Brunswick ~615 pm the same day. Why didn't they fix it earlier if they knew it was not working? Another traveler near us on plane said he's already flown 100k miles this year and delta is notorious for cancellations... Two other travelers said its been too often this flt has had maintanence issues... Not only did we hve to wait again at the gate but we were not told if we should try and get seats on the last flight that was scheduled to leave later in the evening at 7:45pm. Lack of communication! Later flt was delayed due to weather and that's understandable and out of our control but it appears this plane should have been dealt with earlier and we missed out dinner for 50th anniversary. Very unhappy with DELTA!
