The worst thing that US air did was affectively steal $447.10 from us. I wish that I had had the energy to take them to small claims court, but I have heard that is difficult. I paid for a ticket for my younger brother to visit my grandparents on my grandmothers birthday along with the rest of our family (my grandfather was very ill). When he got to the airport, they have canceled all flights because of a storm. We re-booked him to come early the next morning on the day of the birthday party. When he got to the airport there was a huge line. When he actually got to the desk they said that he was 3 minutes or so too late to check in (after waiting ages in a huge line!!!). They said they would book him on another flight that would get him there for the party. They sent him to another airline (Delta I think). When he got there it turned out that they had completely lied to him and given him a ticket that would not arrive until long after the party was over. Since we were all leaving the following day he asked the other airline to cancel the ticket and they said they did. When my mother (who used to be a travel agent and often books his tickets) tried to use the money for a new ticket the airline said that he had used the ticket. When he insisted that he had not they said that he needed to go to the airport to try to clear it up. He went to the airport, but they did not clear it up and would never refund my money. My grandfather died before my brother ever got to see him again. It was all very sad.

All I can say is...weather happens. If people expect they're going to get there right on time when the weather is bad, good luck. I suppose you have an issue with US Airways...I don't know. But, what is confusing is why you allow US Airways to continually mess up your family? The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

Upon being late for check in, the ticket may have not been good for a refund. Exactly how early did that person show for the flight the second day? Being at the airport just in time does not count if their is a long line. All airports and airlines recommend no less than an hour and a half (many instruct to get there even earlier) in case of long lines.
It also sounds like the other person who was trying to use the ticket had another name. Ticket vouchers and credit are generally only allowed to be used by the same person who was named on the ticket for security purposes. Names on tickets can not be changed by the agents at the airport. Management may be able to do it but that has to be done ahead of time and not at the airport. But that depends on the contract of carriage that so few read. |
