Thumbs down Left items on plane

We contacted NorthWest Customer Service after my husband and I left our glasses on a flight from Denver to Raleigh, N.C. We were told that since it wasn't checked baggage they had no way to store items. What happened to our $900.00 worth of glasses that we had to replace? Do they just throw them in the garbage?

I hope those that transport organs such as kidney's, heart's never forget them and leave on plane. Who knows where they would end up.

This will change. I'm retired and have plenty of time to change legislation.

Give me a break. First, comparing glasses to transplant organs is a bit ridiculous. Second, that plane probably flew to more places than Raleigh that day...who knows where the glasses that you and your husband left behind ended up? I usually hear the flight attendants on arrival reminding passengers to check for personal items they may have left onboard. What else should they do? Your last sentence is what irritated me the most. "This will change"...??? You're going to change legislation because you were irresponsible and left your $900 glasses on the airplane? Good luck.

It always amazes me how much crap people feave behind. Where I work there are is a box full of all sorts of glasses. Unless someone comes back and asks for them we usually pull out box and let them search. Unles it was previous nights flight and found . We usually keep those out for a bit. Books..tons of them. I bet we have at least 20-30 cell pones and a few blackberry's. A gameboy, games. dvd's. With phones, we usually try to call someone on the list and leave msg. that wefound phone and were it is. I have actually put a few in boxes and sent on flight to airport were they might be.

What I don't understand is why do people put thier stuff in those seat pockets? That's just plain stupid. At one time a woman came in and claimed xhe had a small velvet pouch with about $10,000 worth of diamond jewelry in it and left it in the seat pocket. Yeah!!!!
Right!!!! And if she did well .....(draw your own conclusions here.) Some people deserve what they get.

Anyway, put your phone / glasses/ ipod/ camera in your pocket or purse / briefcase...don't know where u left your glasses, and yes it sucks. But some things are just downright impossible to track down.

BTW, good luck on that whole legislation thing .LOL

im agreeing with pattis on this. when i worked as a customer service agent we had a box full of stuff that people had left on the plane and in seat back pockets. that plane may have gone somewhere else after Raleigh so now the glasses could be in florida...who knows. and like what was said in previous posts....good luck on the legislation thing.

There are a lot more important things to do with legislation than protected glasses from customers who left them behind. What would the law say? Airlines are responsible for the the actions of their passengers? If we want the airlines to be held accountable and owe a duty of care, their passengers should also have the same obligation.

Suggestions also to avoid losing your glasses if you don't need them on all the time, Most stores sell these neat little chains you can hang your glasses around your neck and then when you need them you put them on and BEHOLD there are right there when you need them.
I don't think you'd have much luck on legislation for peoples forgetfulness

I remember my lost and found box was full of glasses, books, keys, cell phones and music cd cases. I was once accused of stealing the Cds that were left on a plane from a different city. I was flabbergasted! Did you know that in some states , if you leave the keys of your car in the car, ie...while at the convenient store, and someone steals it, it is not considered grand theft auto. Just something to ponder.

When you leave an item on an aircraft look in the arriving cities lost and found at that airports baggage services for the carrier you arrived on. The people that clean the aircraft are expected to turn it i there. Though all passengers are responsible for the items they carry. Airlines are not responsible for items not recovered.

In theory, that is how it should work. The arrival city cleans the aircraft on the turn and they find all the lost items passengers left. In reality, a lost item many times is lucky to be found the same day, if at all. Smaller cities (and even the larger ones now with more staff) rarely have the luxury of time to go on board and pick up the big chunks on a turn. (Turn meaning an arrival and departure) Also, in theory, all aircraft are supposed to have a thorough cleaning when it sits overnight. This is when most items are found (that haven't been stolen by other passengers throughout the day).

So to be honest, the next arrival city may very well not find a left article on a plane and it honestly could ride the rest of the day or longer depending.

anyone who has flown lately could attest that most planes look like the inside hasnt been cleaned in awhile. I thank the person kind enought on one flight I took to have left me their gum in the seatback pocket......how did they know I needed some gum

Off topic I guess, but...

I would agree that the airplanes that I have flown on lately had not been cleaned in a long time. My daughter needed one of the little barf bags and the pocket in front of my seat didn't have one and hers had a kleenex in it and was glued shut by I'm hoping gum, I was afraid to look.

When I asked for a new little bag, the flight attendant put the dirty one in a cabinet, rummaged around a bit, then grabbed the one we gave her, she was going to give it back to us as a new one until she tried to open it and found the same surprise that I had.

She then produced one that was empty.

It was a Delta flight, I guess we got Deltaed!
