I am disabled, unable to stand or walk. I am mobile by means of a motorized wheelchair. On April 8, 2010, my wife (caregiver) took a delta flight from San Diego, CA to Louisville, KY. When we arrived in Loisville it was discovered my motorized wheelchair was damaged; a flat tire, armrest and baseplate ripped from frame, armrest release lever broken off. On our return flight to San Diego; from Louisville, KY to Atlanta, GA, my chair was again damaged; controller which controls all settings/movement og the chair was broken off the frame, and the face plate to see what setting, speed, position the chair is in was cracked and non-functionable. When we arrived in San Diego from Atlanta my chair was again danmagedthe cover plate for one of the stabilizing wheels was broke off and missing, the left calf pad was bent back and the bracket was broken, the other armrest release lever was broke off. When we opened my lugage it was discovered my nebulizer compressor used for required medicated breathinbg treatments was broke beyond repair.
On an exchanginmg flight I was taken, by aisle chgair to a aisle seat where I was told the armrest was not moveable in order to side transfere. I had to grab the back of the seat in front of me, lifting with all my might (Ihave upper extrinity weakness with braces on both arms, and tumble into the aisle seat, after which my wife assisted me in sitting upright. Flying with Delta was a nightmare. If have disabilities and intend to fly Delta, be prepared to have problems, major problems. |

All on the same wheelchair? Or different wheelchairs (replacements)?
If it is the same one then I'm a little questioning because I wouldn't think or trust the wheelchair to work properly and would feel very unsafe but you should report this and get paid damages since you need the wheelchair and it's not easy to replace |

Delta is required, by law, to repair or replace your damaged wheelchair. They must provide you with a loaner chair in the interim. Did you report the damage to Delta when you arrived at your destination?

They are liable and you must report it. You can try the DOT if you get nowhere. They seem to have a policy of rejecting complaints to see if you drop it or take it further, regardless of the merit. I suggest you pursue this.
