Dear Sir
My son and I were on flight AA155 on the 12th july 2010this flight was allowed to take off and 45 mins into the flight we were told we would have to return to London as the oxygen system was not working.A further 30 mins into the flight the Captain announced he would have to burn off fuel as he could not land with the current weight of the plane.4 hours later we were still flying round in the air burning off fuel . In all of this time we were not offered anything to drink nothing to eat and there was just no passenger contact at all.we were assured by the captain that when we land there would be another plane to take us to our destination which was Boston needless to say when we finally did land there was no plane to take us to our destination and the maintenance crew came on board and said the flight was cancelled.This was the start of my holiday and I was not happy to say the least we were then sent to a hotel for the night and when we arrived at the hotel there were no rooms we then had to find another hotel which had rooms and this was all taking place by now at 1oclock in the morning.when we checked into the hotel I asked if there was any food and we were told there was nothing available so with the stress of the flight being cancelled the treatment we recieved throughout I was absoulutely furious we had to go to a garage and buy a sandwich and a bottle of water. I had a connecting flight the next day to Los Angeles and because of this poor poor service from American Airlines my entire Holiday was cancelled. I just think this type of treatment to the passenger who helps pay the wages of the flight crew is unacceptable and needs looking at. American Airlines have said they will refund me with all my flights so I am waiting to see how long that takes in coming through but who pays the bill for my accomodation me I suppose this is so unfair Margaret Kidger |

Actually Margaret, the good news is, you are entitled to compensation under EU 261. This will pay for your accommodation, phone calls, costs of meals and a monetary sum of compensation (in this case €600). Each passenger in your group is entitled to this, as your journey began in the EU.

You should have little difficulty as the situation here is pretty clear cut. As an aside, your complaint is hard to read due to a lack of punctuation.... a comma or a full stop goes a long way!!
